If you're one of those bird loving folks like me who loves to have a bird feeder in their yard because they believe that feeding wild birds is one way making an impact to the world by making sure that the chances that the birds and their offspring will survive, but don't want the hassle and the stress of having to drive away the squirrels away from the feeder, as well as t to having to refill the feeder every day then the Droll Yankees Squirrel Proof Bird Feeder is a something that's sent from heaven.
One of the main concerns that I had when I purchased this is that it has to stop the squirrels from getting to the seeds. I found out that the key to success here is in where you place the feeder.
The instructions said to put the feeder 4 feet from the ground, and around 8 feet away from anything that the squirrels can jump from. This worked, and so far the squirrels have had no luck in getting the seeds except for the ones that fall to the ground. And for good measure, this feeder's 18.5 inches, Ultraviolet stabilized polycarbonate feeder also serves as a pole mounted squirrel stump to prevent the squirrels from reaching the seeds.
It's good to note that because the feeder is smooth, the birds might, at first, be reluctant to land on it, but they will get over it over time. It also has a 15-inch clear feeder which serves as a shelter for birds while protecting the seed from the elements. The clear feeder as a large six-pound capacity, so I'm happy that I don't need to keep refilling it every day. In addition to this, the eight feeder ports are also designed so that it empties completely which prevents the seeds from spoiling.
At first, I was nervous about installing it since I'm not the best person in the world in putting things together. But I was very happy that I am such a klutz at assembling things was able to put it together very easily. I was also pleasantly surprised that the Droll Yankees no tilt ground auger ( the screw like thing at the end) kept the 5.5 feet black steel pole securely mounted to the ground.
I know that nobody will say or admit it, but cleaning a bird feeder is not exactly a pleasant thing to do, but albeit a necessary thing to do. However, thankfully, the Droll Yankees feeder is very easy to clean because of their Droll Yankees Collet technology. All I had to do was loosen the collet fastener and lift the cover feeder for easy access. I used a solution 50/50 solution of water and vinegar to clean and disinfect the parts.
The feeder cost around $137 which admittedly is a bit more expensive compared to the other bird feeders that are on sale out there. However, my experience with the Droll Yankee Squirrel Proof Birdfeeder has proven that it is worth the cost. It is extremely sturdy and durable and worth every penny that you pay for. For good measure, it comes with a lifetime warranty and it's made in the USA. I'm very happy with this purchase, and I highly recommend it for people who are looking for good quality, long lasting feeder.
